Help me with... 2 things!

I've got some quick questions for you guys!

1) When creating units/activities to offer to other people, how do you  get some pages to be 'landscape' and others 'portrait' in the same file?? I'm pretty computer savvy, but this has baffled me. I haven't googled it yet... I thought I'd ask some real experts first! ;)

2) I'm wanting to make my read aloud time purposeful next year, and I think that I want to do that by focusing on author studies. What are your favorite authors to study with first graders??? I'm looking forward to using my creative side to make some great activities to put out there in Blog-Land!

Thanks in advance for your advice... I admire you guys so much!

1- In my version of Microsoft Word, you go to file > page setup > select landscape or portrait, then under preview you select apply to: this point forward

2- I LOVE studying Jan Brett! She has so many fun activities on her site, too. It makes it easy to plan!

  4. I love Kevin Henkes. He's always my first author study of the school year followed by Robert Munsch. Donald Crews is also another good one.

  8. THANK YOU for question #1. I thought I was losing my mind!! lol

For #2, I really love Jamie Lee Curtis' books. She does a lot with character ed and really speaking to the kids at their levels. I've gone many different directions with her stories. {It's hard to be 5, Big words for little people, Where do balloons go?, Tell me again about the night I was born...} ;)

  9. I'm so glad you asked question #1! I have been trying to figure that out for weeks now!!!! Glad I'm not the only one! And I also thought I was "computer savvy!" haha But I'm stumped! I have a new version of word and the page layout is at the top above the page where you type with other options like homem insert, etc. I tried what Mrs. Patton said but I'm not seeing a preview option. Where would this be?

Question #2) I like Laura Numeroff, Eric Carle, Jan Brett, David Shannon
